I already have intentions of implementing mini-lessons, six-word summaries, free writing Fridays, and several revision strategies into my lesson plans. As a high school English teacher, these strategies will be useful for incorporating writing into my classroom in low-stakes ways, allowing my students to build inky courage and practice their writer’s craft.

I learned a lot of new strategies that I can incorporate into my classroom with young learners. Just small things here and there that can encourage them to write more often, like the 6-word-summary.

I was reminded of the power of using data to drive conversations with PLCs, especially potentially difficult conversations such as the kind that can come from equitable grading practices.
