
Meet Juliet Wahleithner
Program Director
Juliet Michelsen Wahleithner, Ph.D., has been the Director of the San Joaquin Valley Writing Project since 2018. Prior to that, she served as the Co-Director with Dr. Kathleen Godfrey from 2016-2018. Additionally, Dr. Wahleithner serves as Assistant Professor of Literacy Education in the Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education department at Fresno State. Dr. Wahleithner’s work with the Writing Project began in 2002 when she first attended the Great Valley Writing Project’s (GVWP) Invitational Summer Institute at CSU Stanislaus. She served as the Advocacy Coordinator and Associate Director of GVWP until 2015, as well as a Teacher Leader with Area 3 Writing Project based at UC Davis from 2008-2015. Currently, Dr. Wahleithner also serves as the Associate Executive Director of the California Writing Project.

Meet Jackie Smith
Teacher
Jackie Smith is an English teacher at Edison High School. She has been involved with SJVWP since 2010, and currently serves as co-director. She counts the Writing Project as the best professional development she’s ever done because it allows her to be both “a leader and a learner”.

Meet Marci Haas
Teacher
Marci Haas
Marci has taught preschool through sixth grade. The last 25 years was spent in Clovis Unified where she was a part of an admin team for the last four, providing support to teachers, intervention programs, and English Learning programs as well as an afterschool program. She retired in June and is looking forward to continuing to mentor and support other teachers in their work with our students.
Marci has been involved with the SJVWP for the last twelve to fifteen years. She loves to learn with other teachers. She always leaves a Writing Project opportunity with a full heart knowing that there are amazing teachers caring for the children of our communities every day!
